One of the things we appreciate so much about Beverly Scott is her humble, sweet nature. When she was nominated to be a Featured Member, her response was, "I do so appreciate the honor of being nominated but I really do not have too much to contribute yet. I thank that sweet person, whoever it was. You may have to wait a couple years on me to get caught up with some of the others."
Beverly Ann Scott joined Mydaylilies.com on Oct. 31, 2009 and immediately jumped in to share her passion for the daylily. She started and moderates the Bring on the Tetraploid Group, the Daylilies Companion Group, the Clumpity Clump Group, the Seedling Patch Group, and is very active in many others. She always displays a positive attitude and goes out of her way to offer assistance and encouragement.
She lives in the small town of Nilwood, Illinois and shares the following:
"I was working in a retail store when my husband Scotty, who is sixteen years older than I, had a bad stroke. I was going to have to quit my job to take care of him but the store burned down just months before I could retire. There is a lady from our church that was telling me two years ago that she grew 700 different daylilies. Well, that started another addiction for me. I was unaware of any but the 'Ditchlily'. She gave me some and since then, I have planted over 300. I just finished planting some seeds in my mini greenhouse inside.
I am nowhere near being organized with my daylilies yet but am working on it. I had some of my own bloom for the first time last summer and can't wait for more to bloom this year. I fell in love with daylilies and I love of all kinds and shapes.
I was studying my Ditchlilies and my Kwansos and realized that I don't have Kwanso but rather Flero Pleno. I had two seedlings come from these which are a light cantaloupe color. I joined the AHS and sent in my papers to have it registered as Sweet Melon. I have pictures of it in my photo album. I don't have much time or ambition to be a hybridizer, but they are so intriguing that I will probably play with some dabbing of pollen here and there. If this is my only worthy one, I will be happy. I may not have much else, but I have my daylilies (which I can't stop buying) and Mydayliles.com and all the wonderful people that are a part of this site. I love you all.
