I was wondering what your favorite toothy daylily is and why? Are you attracted to the ones with the edge and teeth having a different color from the bloom? I have not been a big fan of those with teeth until I saw Stan Holley's new 2010 intro, Oklahoma Sand Burr and I fell in love with it at first sight. Now I find myself seeking out more. Suggestions?

Where did you see this Oklahama Sand Burr at? I checked his website and his 2010 intros are not on there. I like the teeth that are a diffrent color form the flower. Reall like the dark purple ones with white teeth.

I saw it on Charlie Dorsey's video that he did of daylilies blooming in July (July 5, I think). The version I saw had the name of the daylily and the hybridizer on the picture. I contacted the Holleys and they said Oklahoma Sand Burr is one of their 2010 intros. I keep waiting on their website to be updated.

I received their catalog it is in there of course! I love Purple too, but not all Daylilies with teeth actually show them. Depending on where you live, some are weather related.
Some of my favorites include Bass Gibson and Ruckus,Interview With A Vampire, Wild Hair, Angelique Fringes, Lemon Fringed Pastel, Eagles Gift that is a Purple that shows it's teeth here,Diamond Star Halo another purple that shows it's teeth for me. I have more but this will get you started! Debbie

I love the Holley's toothy intros..so wish I knew the parentage.I will have to watch for there new intros to go up on the web!
I have used RUFFLED STRAWBERRY PARFAIT quite a bit and have some very nice red and cerise seedlings with Ivory teeth. I can't send the pics yet because I am changing over computers and the pics are on the other one. PLAYING WITH SHARKS is a purple with metallic gold teeth here in my zone 5 garden..I have yet to see it's offspring. It is very hardy and prolific here. STARTLE gives some great edges that I have seen on other sites..and is very hardy here. TRULY ANGELIC is another one that I am breeding with and hoping to get some good teeth on it's offspring. It has ANGEL'S SMILE in it's background. Then of course there is FORESTLAKE RAGAMUFFIN which has done well here but don't have kids out of it yet...lately I have seen red coloring with gold teeth out of it on other people's intros. I think I even saw a purple out of it!Another one is out of Rice's Annettes Magic X(don't remember right now) and we got two extremely toothy kids out of the same cross(first year bloom) this summer. We dubbed them ROSE RAZOR and RED RAZOR.
One thing that I am rather picky on is about how 'fussy' the teeth get. when they look like they have to be untangled then I probably wouldn't purchase another person's intro and would try to make sure that the one I would introduce would have to have an awfullot more going for it than just unruly teeth. IE; branching, bud count color clarity and size(proportionate to the bloom and height)
Enough said..lots to think about! Nancy the Lilyfan
