It generally only takes an hour or two from the act of pollination for fertilization to occur ('take'). One cannot see when this happens, however, within two to three days, you will be able to see that the base of the bloom is starting to swell if the fertilization did take. Some hybridizers go ahead and cut half of the spent bloom off the plant the day following the pollination. This way, the weight of the spent bloom does not break off the young seed pod forming and the pollination of adjacent blooms can be done without interference of the spent bloom.
